The e2F Filter
Clair air purifiers utilize a new patented technology called the e2f filter. While most people may be familiar with HEPA filters, which is the current industry standard, Clair aims to go beyond just the standard HEPA filter with the e2f filter. In fact, it was designed for ease of use without compromising on function. So how does the e2f do this?
Before answering this question, first we need to establish what it means to be a HEPA filter as a baseline. HEPA stands for High Efficiency Particulate Air, and the US Department of Energy defines a HEPA filter as the following:
"A throwaway, extended-media, dry type filter with a rigid casing enclosing the full depth of the pleats. The filter shall exhibit a minimum efficiency of 99.97% when tested at an aerosol of 0.3 micrometers diameter".
Essentially, it means that a HEPA filter, by definition, is capable of capturing at least 99.97% of all particulate matter 0.3 microns in size; and therefore, according to this definition, the e2f filter is actually HEPA qualified. In fact, not only is the e2f filter HEPA qualified, it actually goes beyond the HEPA qualifications and captures particulate matter even smaller than the standard 0.3 microns set by HEPA at an impossibly small 0.1 microns.

In addition to trapping particulate matter beyond the qualifications set by the US DoE, Clair air purifiers are ozone-free and release absolutely no noxious gases whatsoever. This is due to the fact that this product does not use an ionizer to trap ions in the air. An ionic air purifier typically produces a high voltage in order to induce a negative charge in particulate matter. Once charged, these ions then seek an earthed object to get rid of its negative charge, which causes the ions to stick to a room wall or floor.
However, an unintended consequence for air purifiers with powerful air ionizers is the generation of ozone. While smaller air purifiers do not have this problem, larger ones may produce significant amounts of ozone – an extremely volatile compound that reacts vigorously with the mucous lining and respiratory system of both people and animals.
Instead of generating negatively charged ions, the e2f filter in Clair air purifiers are statically charged, which attracts non-polarized fine dust. Utilizing the power of static electricity, fine dust is eliminated from the air you breathe without the introduction of potentially harmful levels of ozone.
The e2f filter harnesses the power of static electricity to collect particles smaller than 0.1μm (micrometers).

But that is not all. Everything about the Clair air purifier is different from standard air purifiers found on the market today. This applies not only to the e2f filter compared to the standard HEPA filter, but to the mode of operation as well.
Most personal air purifiers on the market today are not designed to be run continuously. Due to high power consumption that can range anywhere from 40W to 120W, it is not practical to leave these air purifiers on for long periods of time, which is why timers and/or noxious gas detectors are often integrated into these products (these extra features often also bring up the price of air purifier units as well). On the other hand, Clair air purifiers were designed to be run 24-7. With a maximum power consumption of only 5W, running a Clair air purifier 24-7 only costs a few cents per month.
So how do Clair air purifiers consume so much less power than their counterparts? It all comes back to the e2f filter once again. Standard air purifiers, especially those with ionizers or UV purifiers, require extra power to run those features. As mentioned already, ionizers apply a high voltage in order to create the negatively charged ions. In order to generate high voltages, large amounts of power is required. Clair air purifiers do not require any of these features in order to effectively clean the air. The e2f filter was designed with simplicity and effectiveness in mind in order to leave a minimal footprint in your daily life. Even the cleaning process is extremely simple: just open the Clair air purifier and vacuum the accumulated dust. Done.
Clair Air Purifiers are more than just your standard air purifier with a HEPA filter. Its patented e2f filter goes beyond the specifications required by HEPA filters to capture even particulate matter 0.01 micrometers in size. In addition, Clair Air Purifiers are designed to be operational 24-7 by reducing its power consumption significantly compared to standard air purifiers. Clair has completely changed the way air purifiers work.
